Real Estate Agent Joey Ann Saves a Dog and Reunites Her With Her Owner!

Today I was out driving around looking at all the houses that were open for Broker’s Open. As I passed 110 N. Kalaheo I saw a small black scottish terrier walking around without a leash. I passed it and saw it walk across the street in my rear view mirror. The terrier almost gets hit by a car. I made a u-turn, pulled over to the side, and picked up the dog. Unfortunately it did not have a collar with tags on. I took it to Feather and Fur Animal Hospital, the clinic where I take my dogs to, to see if the dog had a microchip. The clinic found a microchip. In Hawaii if a lost dog is found the protocol is to call the Hawaii Humane Society to see if the number is filed with them. Luckily it was. Unfortunately when the Humane Society called the number on file it was a disconnected number. The Humane Society was then trying to see if they could look up the owner’s phone number in the phone book. Feather and Fur was contacted about the disconnected number and they were in the process of contacting Home Again (the company that stores many microchip numbers with their owner’s information.) During this time the owner of the dog contacted the Humane Society to file a missing dog report. So in the end the dog was happily reunited with it’s owner.
I am a HUGE dog person and always do my best to pick up stray/lost dogs to reunite them with their owners. I suggest that if you are not with your dog to always make sure it has a collar with tags on, even if you are leaving it at home. You just never know when or how your dog might get out. Also make sure to register your pet’s microchip with the Humane Society, even if it’s registered with Home Again or Avid. It’s free and you can download the form from the website or even pick up the form from Feather and Fur. (Or maybe your own clinic). And the number one advice, make sure that tags and all information with all companies are updated!! You want to make sure that if someone is calling you with your lost pet that the number is the correct one!!
Happy New Year! Keep your pets safe!
