Lanikai El. Goes Photovoltaic!

Posted by rener under Going GREEN, Kailua, Newsworthy

Lanikai Elementary Public Charter School has just recently became the very first public school in Hawaii to go green and install a photovoltaic system to save a tremendous amount of energy. This upgrade to the school will save $5,000 a month and bring the energy cost down to $166 a day! That is a ton of funds saved which in turn can be used in other areas that will benefit the students who attend this charter school. The installation of the photovoltaic system was comprised of 468 panels along with 9 inverters. It is incredible that just these panels are able to create and generate 173,000 kilowatt hours of electricity over the year.  The project was funded by the state of Hawaii and was installed by Adon Solar, who was gracious enough to also install monitors to teach students about energy renewal. This is a great project which will positively impact the school in the near future.
